“Hybrid” Leadership Offsite

The group leader was hosting an in-person offsite that also required people to be socially distanced.  And they needed someone to design and lead a full day to: (1) Inspire her leaders (2) Train them as innovation leaders and (3) Work on a relevant challenge

The Challenge

The Head of the Innovation team was having her first team offsite, which included several executive team members, and needed an experience corporate innovation speaker and facilitator to design and lead a full days session to: (1) Inspire her leaders (2) Train them in a series of practical design techniques and (3) Guide the group on a real workshop challenge.

The Approach

Dan designed a customized full day session. What made it unique is that the workshop was in-person and all interactions in teams were designed on a virtual collaboration platform (due to covid).

The day was broken into four parts:

  1. Part 1: Inspire – Dan delivered a 1 hour key note speech that focused on the 5 Things You Can Do as a Leader of Innovation
  2. Part 2: Understand – Dan introduced a CPS technique called challenge mapping and the team applied to a departmental challenge.
  3. Part 3: Ideate – The 3rd step was an introduction to the idea of lateral thinking where the teams had a chance to learn in stepwise way how to use this powerful technique.
  4. Part 4: Fast Learning – The last part of the day was learning how to design and conduct fast learning experiments.

The Outcome

The group was energized and tired at the same time. The offsite was rated as one of the best offsite / training events they had ever participated in.

The GS1 leadership team continues to use and apply the principles and tools that were taught over the course of the day.

The also walked away with a set of resources and a guide for future application.
